LEGAL ADVOCATE PROGRAM

The Legal Advocates helps the survivors understand their legal rights and supports them in their efforts to protect their rights.

The Legal Advocates provide direct intervention on behalf of and with the permission of survivors. The Legal Advocates makes every effort to make it clear to survivors that they are not an attorney and do not practice law or give legal advice.

Additional services provided by Legal Advocates are as follows:

• Collaborate with law enforcement and the criminal justice/civil court systems, court accompaniment, and assistance in obtaining legal representation.
• Provide an attorney referral list to aid survivors in selecting an attorney sensitive to the obstacles survivors of domestic violence may face in the criminal justice and civil court systems.
• Serve as a guide through the legal process.
